Firstly I should mention that I don’t have my Free Hit chip, however I created a draft one for the FFGeek podcast this week to help people with some of their questions and to give them ideas.
My thoughts on the Free Hit in general is that by playing the free hit you already have a significant advantage, so unless you are well behind in rank/mini leagues gambling hard on a small number of teams and not bringing in attack vs defence situations doesn’t appeal to me. I’d rather bring in each player for their own merits. It’s also a chance for a bit of fun, and to pick some differentials so I’d advise attacking it with a bit of freedom.
With that in mind here is my draft
In attack I have the Spurs double up with Son looking to be out until after the international break. I also have double Arsenal which may raise some eyebrows. However, underlying stats for Pepe and Aubameyang from a shot volume and Xg is close to top of the table across all players so for a 1 game punt I think it’s worth a gamble.
Raphina makes it into the team as he has looked impressive in recent weeks, and has been unlucky not to start. Trossard (who I have in my actual team) and Gross are good options too. Maja’s stats are also pretty decent and Leeds’s defensive stats on the road are awful so I think he could be a shrewd differential. Antonio makes up the last attacking player with Lookman on the bench.
Defence was trickier and with money no issue I simply chose players with both attacking and defensive potential, albeit I couldn’t pick out a clean sheet from the fixtures. Brighton arguably have the easiest defensive game, however this is a relegation dogfight and anything could happen. As such I have just gone with Dunk (although Veltman has some decent attacking stats recently and could be considered) but no other Brighton defender. Cresswell and Dallas are there for attacking threat and possible clean sheet potential. Lascelles and Target are on the bench. Reguilon is the obvious omission. Goalkeepers are Areola with reserve Dubravka who I think have a decent chance of some save points.
Hope that gives you some food for thought. Good luck this gameweek, free hit or not
