Introduction

This is part 3 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It won’t cover transfers in real time either. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.  The teams are shown as their “final-ish” teams so they could change.  Where they have twitter accounts I have shown this and they may update them there or on our Slack Channel which is part of our subscription Patreon site but this is not guaranteed

Rick Porter

Rick’s last 4 seasons overall ranks were 29k, 1k, 30k and 2k.

GW35 points: 120 -4 (FPL average 83) Total points: 2,379, Overall Rank: 1k, no rank movement,  Team Value: £105.1m

GW35

The week actually started out pretty badly. The decision to drop 4 points (plus locking in another -4 in the future) to lose Dallas and Son bit me immediately when they both scored and racked up 16 points between them. Fortunately Greenwood and Alexander Arnold, who I replaced them with, also stepped up to the mark. Although it looks like the points hit will pan out, a few disappointing performances (I’m looking at you Watkins) means I ended up with the smallest of red arrows going backwards by 300 odd places

Transfer

I knew I was going to have to take at least a -4 to field 11 in GW36 and I’ll almost certainly do Castagne to Dallas and then Iheanacho to either Bamford or Antonio. Whichever forward doesn’t make the cut will likely be brought in for Watkins next week anyway. With Veltman looking ruled out I may take a another hit, not sure who for though. I’d really like Son back, but the only sensible path to him is through Bruno and I’ll want him back for GW37 when he’d cost me an extra 0.5m. That’s money I won’t have without additional hits and downgrades, so Son’s just going to have to become a player I fear for a few weeks.

Captain

Salah cap. Kane vice.

Transfer summary: Castagne to Dallas and then Iheanacho to Bamford/Antonio

Gameweek 35 summary:

Well a marathon seven day gameweek that started and ended with a 2-4, a triple gameweek for Man Utd that saw Fernandes and Greenwood top score, bad luck for Maguire and Watkins owners and the football on the field at Old Trafford finally outshone the previous events off it .

My GW35 score and rank:

116 – 4 = 112 points. A monster score most weeks but not in the midst of a double / triple gameweek. Seven returners included my Liverpool trio, as well as Martinez, Iheanacho, Calvert Lewin, and a 38 point haul from captain Bruno.

Blanks from my two single game players, Lingard and Kane, as well as disappointing double gameweek returns from Shaw and Rudiger.

My run of red arrows continued. That’s 5 in 6 weeks, from the dizzy heights of 13k. A small drop this week from 28k to 31k which was a bit of a recovery act in the end from a worse fate as 49 vital points hit the scoreboard on the final day.

My GW35 talking points:

Not owning Greenwood was a hammer blow to my chances of a green arrow. Two big goals brought joy to many around my rank as he joint top scored with Fernandes.

The Mendy penalty save handed to him on a plate with an Aguero smart arse Panenka miss was pretty annoying too as a non Mendy owner. With Forster racking up a penalty save too for good measure. Martinez did however finally land his first clean sheet in 8 games and in the end outscored Mendy by one point after a final day 10 pointer !!

It was the returns of Salah, Jota and Trent that bumped my score up at Old Trafford, as well as captain Fernandes. Four returns from five with just Shaw missing out. Incredibly, Jota and Trent Alexander Arnold could both have doubled their scores on the night in a really open game.

I sold Son and Bamford who both scored and benched Dallas !! But losing Son was a sacrifice to get in five games of Calvert Lewin and Trent, two quality FPL assets with great fixtures. I originally planned to keep Son and compromise with Phillips and Watkins. So it proved a worthwhile hit to go Trent and Calvert Lewin instead as I dodged a big bullet with the red card of Watkins. I won some and lost some but I am pleased to have Calvert Lewin and Trent in my team now with promising fixtures ahead.

So what next:

I have 0.7M in the bank and one free transfer. I have a few transfer options under consideration.

I have four players without a fixture in GW36, so I can move one out and field 11 players without a hit, which would be a good place to be when hits will be plentiful this week and many managers have only 8-9 players after an aggressive approach to GW35. I had pre planned a more conservative balanced approach with the aim to get a full team out this week with no hits.

Leicester have no fixture this week, then play Chelsea and Spurs, so my plan is to take out Ihenacho this week. Antonio, Bamford and Wood all offer better points potential over these last three games.

I owned Bamford for a long time. I took him out ahead of GW35 as he was “frustrating, infuriating, annoying” and had been subbed early regularly in his 7/9 blanks before his Spurs tap in. So I probably won’t go back. Wood seems in a rich vein of form, but I am going to have a three week punt on Antonio. That performance at Burnley was breath taking. If he stays fit, I am convinced he is the best option.

I have Kane and Calvert Lewin already in place so that’s a potent front three. With Calvert Lewin having tasty home games v Sheff Utd and Wolves, he is then a possible switch out in GW38 when he plays Man City, and it’s Bamford v Westbrom or Sheff Utd v Chris Wood.

The other transfer I considered was Bruno Fernandes to Son. Fernandes has a blank GW36, and could miss GW38 ahead of the Europa League final. Son has Wolves at home this week. If I take a hit to get him, Son would have to effectively outscore Lookman by 4+ points and my huge concern is having no Fernandes in GW37. Yes Son could match him v Villa in GW37 but I have Kane and I just don’t think I fancy going without Bruno for that Fulham game, in front of fans at Old Trafford. The same applies to Luke Shaw. He has threatened a monster haul for weeks and I don’t want to sell now in case it comes in that Fulham game.

I could leave Iheanacho to Antonio until GW37 and prioritise Fernandes to Son without a hit. After all , I would probably rather have Son v Wolves than Antonio at Brighton. But I am set on having Bruno in GW37. His ownership is just too big for my risk appetite.

Yes I am a little worried about no Son this week, but there are plenty Son owners who have no Kane. I know who I would rather have out of the two. Non Kane owners should be afraid. This week has Kane hat trick written all over it.

My carefully laid plans have been frustrated with an injury to Veltman who remains a big doubt at time of writing. So I could be down to 10 without a hit. But I am not convinced I can justify a hit for a defender at that price. Even with no playing defender sub, and so an effective -2, a replacement would still need to keep a clean sheet or get an attacking return to make it profitable and the ceiling seems low.

Keeping Veltman and doing Rudiger to Godfrey v Sheff Utd or Coufal instead, is another option and that could repay a hit. We will see. I might just leave Veltman in and if he doesn’t make it, going with 10 with no hits is still a good place to be this week. But the hit to field 11 and pitch Godfrey in v Sheff Utd is teasing me.

My GW36 set up:

The captain polls have Salah well clear which is a little surprising given their game at West Brom allows only two rest days after Old Trafford, and he is not 100% to start with the frequent rotation of the front four, whereas Kane will be refreshed against a poor Wolves side, and gunning for the golden boot. Having said that, Kane has just been a little off with his finishing touch since his injury and I rarely go against a clear poll favourite so we will see if I am brave and back Kane. If the polls are clear, it will probably be Salah.

Triple Liverpool for West Brom, Antonio and Lingard in tandem, Calvert-Lewin v Sheff Utd is nice, and Kane v Wolves, so plenty of potential. And I can throw in a rare 1.4% differential in Lookman so it would be nice to land a surprise double figure haul there !!

Transfer summary:

Ihenacho to Antonio has been done as both players were due to move Thursday night, and it gives me the option to replace Rudiger with Godfrey and put 11 on the pitch if Veltman misses out.

Captain :

Salah or Kane, possibly Salah

Good luck everyone !!!!

Monster week. Pumped. Felt good and all that.

Waiting for the press conferences. Looking like Shaw to Dallas or Greenwood to Lingard. One or the other to get to 11 for free.

Trent cap to try to make up 40 points and hopefully steal a win in a money league.

Good luck!

Transfer summary: To be confirmed Shaw to Dallas or Greenwood to Lingard

GW 35 Review

So I finished GW35 with 129 points which is a third century of this bizarre FPL season.

I would like to think that this makes me some kind of FPL genius but truth be told, double game weeks are a lottery and I bought a lot of tickets.

I certainly did not foresee Forster’s (10) penalty save, nor Holding’s (9) dogged clean sheet at The Bridge. Trent’s (7) clean sheet home to Soton, Iheanacho (9)’s goal and Bruno’s (38) including a penalty were a little more predictable.

I was delighted that Vardy (7) eventually returned to repay my 4-point hit for him and DCL’s (11) goal was the icing on the cake.

I ended up on 89k overall rank, very close to a 1% finish

GW 36 Preview

I currently have 9 active players for GW36 and one FT. Holding, Rudiger, Bruno, Vardy and Iheanacho don’t have a fixture.

Leicester have tricky fixtures after the blank and Vardy has underwhelmed so he has to go.

I would like to get Kane is as Spurs have good fixtures and he is chasing the golden boot. The problem is a familiar one for this season, I don’t have sufficient funds. So, I am looking to take a hit to make the transfer. One hit to buy Vardy for Kane and another to get him back. This is not the optimum way to play FPL.

Looks like Bruno has to be one to go. With the Europa Cup final shortly after GW38 I would not be surprised if his minutes are reduced in that match. Also, Kane looks like being my captain in GW37.

Planned transfers

Vardy and Bruno out for Kane and Son for a hit.

Other options

If anything, unexpected happens tonight or in the pressers tomorrow,

Transfer summary: Vardy out for Antonio or Bamford.

And potentially, Rudiger for an Everton defender.

Good luck everyone
